I had a fantastic time at Moving Thread’s sustainability workshop last weekend! We learned so much about creating art with fabric scraps, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Everyone was lovely, and it was so much fun turning what would be waste into something beautiful. Highly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in creativity and sustainability!

I had such a great experience sewing with Lissa! I had a project I wanted to complete – making a sweater - but I wasn’t sure if I would be capable. We got straight to work with my fabric and pattern; cutting, pinning and sewing. Lissa had every tool needed and gave me a refresh (I hadn’t used a machine in many years). I learned so much and Lissa let me handle as much as I felt comfortable with, and I watched her do the more advanced techniques. I would feel more comfortable trying the more advanced work next time! Lissa was very kind and patient throughout and the sweater turned out exactly as I hoped. I’m so proud to wear it knowing I had a hand in making it! If you have any interest in sewing, I would highly recommend working with Lissa no matter your level of experience!

I took the 4-week intro to sewing workshop and absolutely fell in love with sewing! I’ve never done it before and wanted to start a new hobby and thanks to Lissa’s workshop, I found a new passion. Lissa is incredibly sweet and patient with all the students - she makes you feel very comfortable and capable of doing something new. We learned to make a tote bag, travel case bag, and pants, all of which you take home with you which was very exciting. I’ve already signed up for another workshop to learn how to make a dress and will continue to be a customer of Moving Threads. Looking forward to more classes! 🙂

Lissa's Kid-Friendly Sewing Classes at The Moving Thread in Venice, CA, have been an absolute delight for my daughter. She has participated in various classes, each offering a unique and enriching experience.

She has participated in a fashion class with Rob and Lissa, where they taught her the basics of sewing and introduced fashion design. She also had the opportunity to join a private group class with her friends. This was a fantastic experience as Lissa tailored the class to their interests and skill levels, ensuring each child was engaged and learning at their own pace. The personalized attention they received was incredible, and it was heartwarming to see how much they enjoyed working together on their projects.

Most recently, my daughter and her friends participated in a kids' sewing workshop where they created backpacks. This workshop was a hit! The kids were thrilled to make something both fun and functional. Lissa’s patience and kindness shone through as she expertly guided them through patternmaking, understanding the sewing machine, and assembling their backpacks. She clearly genuinely cares about fostering a love for sewing in each of her students.

The Moving Thread classes are a perfect blend of education and inspiration. The classes are structured yet flexible, allowing the kids to explore creativity while learning essential skills.

If you're looking for a place where you and your child can learn to sew in a fun, supportive, and creative environment, I highly recommend any of The Moving Thread's classes.

I took Lissa’s entry to sewing session lastnight and had a really great time. It would be fun to take the class with a friend, but I went by myself and ended up enjoying the wonderful group (of 6) that I got to meet. Lissa made her way around our small group to answer questions and offer assistance. She’s a wonderful teacher and guides you through SO much that the 3 hours flew by! Highly recommend.

This is such a special place. My 10 year old daughter had never sewn before and was a bit nervous before her class, but when I picked her up, she was beaming. SO proud of herself for learning a new skill and so excited about her new bag. I couldn’t believe how much they had accomplished in 3 hours. The instructors are incredible. So excited for the next class!
